Maui Flood Control Structures

Hart Crowser is providing consultation to the County of Maui regarding flood control structures. The first phase of our scope of work focuses on environmental permitting requirements for maintenance activities at the structures. The facilities include a variety of dams, berms, and levees on Maui and Moloka‘i.

Our work includes reviewing plans and previous Army Corps or Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) inspection reports; attending the Army Corps or DLNR annual inspections of the dams; evaluating permitting issues, including wetland and essential fish habitat issues associated with maintenance of the dams; preparing a matrix of applicable permits and triggers for Department of Public Works maintenance activities at flood control structures; and facilitating meetings with the US Army Corps of Engineers environmental and dam safety groups.

Additional phases will include assisting the County in addressing Army Corps and Department of Land and Natural Resources recommendations relative to facility conditions.
