Hart Crowser is providing geotechnical engineering support for a 12-story hotel on Lake Washington at the site of a former steam plant. The $180 million, 4-star hotel requires 2,300 geopiers (used in areas with soft soil needing ground improvement) up to 50 feet deep. The Geopiers stabilize the ground to reduce the potential for liquefaction during a major earthquake, and improve the ground so that the building can be supported on lower cost spread footings and slabs-on-grade.
