F5 Tower
At 660-feet-tall, the F5 Tower is Seattle’s 5th tallest building and is the tallest constructed since 1990. Hart Crowser provided geotechnical design and construction services for the 44-story development with nine levels of underground parking in downtown Seattle. Challenges of the project includes the proximity of the BNSF railroad tunnel, tiebacks from nearby structures in the right of way of two adjacent streets, narrow right of ways with a 100-foot-deep excavation, underpinning to support a historic church, and PBSD.

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Washington (ACEC) awarded Hart Crowser a Silver Best in State Award for this project.

Numerical modeling of the excavation and shoring system was performed to estimate vertical and lateral deformations of the shoring system and supporting soil. Hart Crowser estimated the potential effects of these deformations on adjacent structures, including adjacent high-rise buildings and the adjacent historic church.
