Burnside Bridge Seismic Feasibility Study

Multnomah County

Portland, Oregon

Earthquake Simulation

Hart Crowser is part of a team that will assess seismic mitigation options for the Burnside Bridge in downtown Portland, Oregon. The bridge has been identified as a critical lifeline for the city and state in the event of a major seismic event, but is not expected to survive the shaking. The County is conducting an engineering and community outreach study to determine the engineering mitigation options for the bridge as well as the critical needs of the community. Hart Crowser’s resiliency partnership, Salus Resilience, will lead the seismic resilience portion of the study and will help the County and design team develop messaging to inform the public about the seismic hazard, risks, and needs for a resilient transportation system in the event of the design earthquake.
